Bought this a week ago and was supposed to get it on ’speedy mail’. . . paid extra. . . wrote seller 3 emails and never heard anything. . . they won’t refund the speed extra mail I spent. . . called Amazon and got a person in Manilla, Philippians who COULD NOT EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH and told me I had no account with Amazon. I have had an account for 10 years. . . VERY DISSAPOINTED IN ELECTRONICA DIRECT and for AMAZON for selling out to foreigners to take care of ‘customer service’. . . could never rectify this because I could never get an email or real person at Amazon or this company!!!

Against the better advice of my IT guy we purchased Dreamweaver CS3. The interface is pretty straightforward and relatively easy to use, but the program crashes quite regularily. I have found it near impossible to update library files. The automated process of updating all pages using that library crashes the system with a C++ runtime error. Adobe support forums are unable to help.

I have found that manually updating each page works most of the time.

Now I am having difficulty adding images to the website. It has taken over an hour to insert a single image. The program has crashed multiple times and my entire computer has locked up twice now. Again, the problem lies in updating pages.

I would not recommend Dreamweaver CS4 to anyone. If you have to do everything manually you are much better off with an simple HTML editor.

This manual is fantatastic. It explains every step that needs to be taken to produce your own personal website. The on line tutorial help and downloads of examples are extremely helpful. It explains each step of production and then gives you an actual step-by-step assembly of your page. I also have Web Sites for Dunmmies which also gives great examples and procedural step for 3 different types of web pages

Dreamweaver CS4 is the best version of Dreamweaver I have used. The new Live View mode is great. In the past you have been able to see what your site looks like but it never worked that well. The Live View mode uses a rendering engine like a web browser so the view is very accurate.

I have had problems with Live View and server side languages like php. I think these problems are related to my test server being a remote server. If you run a local test server this will greatly reduce your issues. The code hints are also improving as the product matures.

Great product. . . I recommend Dreamweaver to everyone looking to build sites.

I have not used Dreamweaver CS4 very long, but in the short time I have used it (about two months- I used UltraDev 4 previously) I found it to be an excellent product. The only negative thing I’ve noticed is that for longer uploads it normally does not complete successfully (my file is 269MB). In cases like this, Dreamweaver either disconnects or errors out. I have been using WS_FTP to get around this limitation, with no problems. Of course 269MB is sort of extreme for most people, unless you normally deal with AV files.
My file happens to be a software application I’m selling online.

I love the changes they made to make it easier to edit cascading style sheets, automatically synchronize files, and so on. Of course, there is a vast difference between UltraDev 4 and CS4 so my praises could go on and on and on. Obviously, someone who has just upgraded from CS3 for instance, would not necessarily have as many good things to say about CS4. As as a side note, I started using Dreamweaver way back when they first came out with version 1. 0 (when it was still Macromedia), so I might be a little biased, but not much–I have used other packages and none of them are as slick as Dreamweaver.

Also, unlike many other packages, Dreamweaver maintains the integrity of your code etc. . . and doesn’t change it without asking you first.

Going from UltraDev 4 to CS4 is like landing on a different planet–there have been a LOT of changes, all for the better as far as I can tell so far. The interface has gone through a major makeover; it’s really slick.

If you’re going to use Dreamweaver templates, the upgrade is a must, if you’re currently using UltraDev 4. I bought a pre-packaged store for my site and the templates would not work correctly in UltraDev 4 because it didn’t recognize the file extensions.

CS4 is a big investment, at least for a start-up business like mine, but I believe it is the best Web Site design software in the business.
