I recently downloaded the free trial of iWork 08, to see if Apple had managed to fix the Appleworks import crashing bug that has been present since the original release of iWork. They have not. In addition, they have discontinued support for Appleworks. If you’re considering purchasing iWork with the idea of reading all your old Appleworks documents in this new post-Appleworks world, you will be sorely disappointed, as Pages bombs on importing about half the Appleworks documents I’ve tested with it. Appleworks 6, by contrast, opens them without complaint.

When I use Microsoft Word to prepare a letter, I select the addressee and using a simple menu, select envelopes. Word picks up the address and prints the envelope.

There is no way to do that in iWorks, thus the product is deficient. I wish I had known about it before I bought it. I’ve gone back to using Word.

I can’t speak about the other programs, but “Pages” is a joke. It is a program for amateurs, not professionals. One example of its shortcomings is the following: if you want to cut or copy a body of text, and you have your heart set on the pasted text having the same font /font size / style, you have to pull down a special command called “Paste and match style. ” This is comical. Why didn’t they make the cutting and pasting work properly in the first place? That’s like saying “Here is your new dishwasher. It cleans beautifully, But if you want to turn it on, you’ll have to push a special button in the back. ”
Not to mention that if there is an underlined word in the text you cut or copied, the underlining won’t come out in the pasted text.

Apple has put professional writers in a bind. The Imac will not support Appleworks, “Pages” is a joke, Microsoft Word is clunky and costs money. I may have to send my Imac back to Amazon, on the grounds that “product does not meet my expectations. ”

    Let the buyer beware.

As with other Apple programs. . . it looks good and is more intuitive out of the blocks than M S. I use m s office all day at work and get tired using software that has a clunky user interface created by unimaginative nerds from the Apple commercials. MS programs by comparison are just a small step above DOS.

Come to think of it. . . why do people even use windows pc’s anymore?

When I switch from my Mac to my PC, I sit and wait . . . and wait. . . and wait. . . and then it freezes. . . . . . and then I switch back to my Mac.

I do my Keynote presentations at home. . . export as Power Point. . then load at work.

I love Mac, OK, but not being able to email a file is a HUGE overlook!!

I just typed up a PAGES document and I can’t Gmail it or send it via Webmail. I’m upset.

SO WHAT if it’s compatible with other programs unless it can be sent to people with those other programs! Thats the main reason that compatability is important in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, it is a great program. Pretty intuitive actually. But as far as business is concerned. . . . . . . . . . . big pain in the But

I just bought the iWork and I needed to type up a proposal ASAP.
