Digg!

In some respects, I really wish that what Bitdefender claimed for itself was true. The mishmash that you see (
providing that you make it through installation and activation as well as registration. . . Wait, isn’t registration
and activation something you can bring together ??), is basically something you might get if you combined a set of
focus groups. The instal looks so very generic and almost like most internet install sites. The Management screen is
good, its easy use to use with Anti-virus, Rescue CD and USB, Encryption vaults for files that you want to prevent
being deleted. However the interface looked good when Norton used it, and McAfeee are currently using a personal
vault for file security. Hard to tell what comes from where.
BITDEFENDER claims that the Antivirus control is new and scanning is improved; The intrusion detection is so
rudimentary that it is not clear that the aim is to stop the children from hacking or from stopping the identity
thieves from keylogging themselves to riches. With the profiles, it is clear that this is aimed at the kids, both
from protecting them from accessing the wrong things on the net, and from making sure that they don’t have their
internet time compromised by lurkers.
From the rumours I have heard, BIT-DEFENDER is supposed to be up for use on corporate PCs; Well, they better spend
the next 8 months brushing up their product so it gets some edge to it. About the only thing I can see that might
stay is the encrypted IM .
Overall, Bit-defender is delusional if they think they are a serious contender in the PC security market ( such a
broad world now a days), but several other pay for people have it covered and some freebie companies are doing very
well in their niche.

Previous reviews give it four and one stars. What does that mean? I ordered this program with some trepidation and when I received it last night, installed it with scepticism.
Bitdefender requested permission to install an update to this program before I even installed the system.
The only criticism I have is that because I received this program from Amazon Vine I was not allowed to register this program using the registration number on the CD. I was only allowed to install this as a “reviewer. ” Does this mean that after so many days I lose the effectiveness of this program?
But alas, I had no problems with the product. Installing this software took over 30 minutes, longer than most security software I’ve had in the past (I’ve had Norton, MacAffee, Intellinet and Defender Pro in the last ten years). The first scan of my system took over two hours, longer than most for the initital use. But in defense of Bitdefender my system proved to have 108 defects that needed repairing and it took its time scanning EVERY digital photograph I have, and I have many. I hadn’t had a working security program on my computer since my system crashed in March and Intellinet would not help me restore my registration (They even refused to answer my email when I asked for a reinstallment even though I had paid for a full year of coverage and still had six months left)
I set my auto scanner to scan every day at 2am. So this morning when I got up to log on, Bitdefender reported one more defect that was quickly deleted.
This is an easy-to-use program. It doesn’t annoy me every few minutes with pop-ups alerting to to whatever new possible systems attack I may have gotten. my computer didn’t need to be rebooted nor did I lose any operations by installing this program. Nor does my system appear any slower than before.

I’ve used BitDefender for about 4 years and have generally been happy with it. I primarily use it for the AV and firewall modules. Two year license for three computers is a plus.
The interface for the program is pretty straight forward for the most part, and the installation went smoothly. I have it set up for advanced users so I have more control over the settings.
I have the firewall set up to let me know when a program tries to connect to the internet, and I am surprised at how many try to phone home, even if “automatically check for updates” is turned off.
The AV seems to work well. . . almost too well. This version gives lots of false positives that it never gave before. For example:
BitDefender has blocked a potentially malicious or infected application.
Windows Installer-Unicode
Application: E:WIND0WSsystemmsiexec. exe
BitDefender has blocked a potentially malicious or infected application.
PaperPort
Application: E:Program FilesPaperPortPaprPort. exe
BitDefender has blocked a potentially malicious or infected application.
InstallShield
Application: E:DOCUME~USERLOCALS~1 Temp_ js24. exe
I have several more like this. I tell BD to allow the program and I have no problems. The daily scan finds no problems, either.
It has also told me it has found viruses, but when I check them out on BD’s own site I find nothing.
It does also seems to slow the system down following the daily scan, requiring a reboot.
As others have stated, Tech Suppport is slow and spotty.
Still, I prefer BD to other programs I have tried.

No problems encountered using this programme. Based on other reviewers. . . I recommend evaluating this programme on a case-by-case basis.

The average cost if you have three PCs is less than 50 cents a month.
This product has tons of features. You can select from Novice, Intermediate, or Expert Level. The Novice level will be good for most users but be prepared to turn on Expert to shut off the firewall if you cannot reach some websites.
In firefox there is an annoying “Anti Phishing” button that I cannot get rid of, but I have yet to really try. In Opera the button does not appear.
The scans are fast, about 1 hour for around 800 GB of files. I was amazed since Norton anti-virus would have taken about 3 hours.
The tool also scans downloads from firefox, I did notice that this slowed things down a bit, but it is worth it for the added security.
There are three really, really, really cool features:
1. It manages your Windows Updates without having to go to the annoying windows update in IE.
2. It will test the strength of your system user password.
3. It automatically tells windows that the firewall and anti-virus are working
There is one other thing that I do not like, the report from scan, automatically opens in IE, but I am a Firefox/Safari/Opera fan, and shun IE in all forms, shapes, and sizes. This probably won’t matter to most people.
That said, I am moving to a Mac soon (within the week) so bit defender, bye bye, I will miss you, but not my PC!
