This is really one of those love hate relationships. I purchased Home Designer Pro 7. 0, and thought it was great. I was looking for a CAD package for remodeling a house I recently purchased. I was please with the functionality, but knew there were features that would make the product better. Then I received an opportunity to upgrade to Home Designer Pro 8. 0. For $300. 00 I bit. Unfortunately, I did not see a big change.
Now, when I start Home Designer Pro, I get a message stating that an update is available. I’ve used computers for a while, and purchased software for a major corporation, so when I see `update’ I think this is something that I’ve already paid for, just correcting some issues. Well, that’s not how Home Designer Pro works. For another $300. 00 I can ‘update’ the software I’ve already paid for. Okay, yes I can decline, but I have to decline everyday that I start the software! I can’t just say no I don’t want to be ripped off again one time, I have to keep clicking the box everyday.
I just have to say: “Better Homes and Gardens” get off my back, a once respected publication has faltered, and is just a money grubbing machine.

This program is perfect for remodeling firms, the individual custom home designer/owner or the hobbyist who demands absolutely the best and see it first in 2-D and then instantly in full-color 3-D with just the click of a mouse.
Unlike the other Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer Line of titles this one has the most “Bells and Whistles” to support the greatest freedom of design and creativity relative to conventional construction. The only program more able in its class is its fully Professional Grade “Bigger Brother”, Chief Architect Version 12.
At a fraction of Big Brother’s price it is a bonafide “steal”: formatted, scaled printing output, full control roof designing, choice of rendering techniques from traditional to Artistic!
