I installed this product without any errors. However, when I tried to start the program I get a message saying to start the program on the computer it was installed on and that if this is the computer it was installed on uninstall it an install it again. Followed these instructions twice before I gave up.

Now I can’t find the dumb receipt to take it back!

I have used H&R Blocks TaxCut for many years now and have come to rely on Taxcut for my filing needs every season. I have come to trust the product and its ease of use and accuracy. I highly recommend the product to others whom feel overwhelmed with their personal taxes every year and those whom scramble trying to figure out where to go and whom to see for help. With their variety of tax programs I am sure most will find the right package for their own personal needs and lifestyle. It’s empowering to do your own taxes and with Taxcut it makes it easy and clear. I will continue to recommend Taxcut to friends and others whom find doing taxes challenging. It’s a great program and a great feeling to take charge of your taxes. I truly recommend it.

Got this a couple weeks before Christmas, went to update it and couldnt. I have windows vista installed. Not my first choice of operating systems, but thats what I had. Anyway, the taxcut software would not update. Every time it would download the software update and go through the install, but then thee software would not recognise that the update had taken place and would want to do it all over again. VERY frustrating. After spending a couple hours with their customer service folks going through everything that I had tried already, they ended up having to send me a new version with the update already installed. Problem is, 2 more updates to go through before I could file my return.

Finally got my return done and the software wouldnt let me file it until it was updated with the latest release. Well, heck, doesnt seem their programmers learned anything in the previous month. Still would download and install the update but would not recognise that the install actually happened and would want to do it all over again. The same with their manual install.

Installed this on my wifes computer which uses older version of windows, and the same thing happened. Very irritating. Great software, and been using their software to do my taxes for years but they really goofed on this. It does the job but if it wont realize its been updated. . . kinda hard to file your return. One more reason to go to flattax.

Right out of the box the H&R Block loaded but then failed to start on my Vista based Dell laptop. Every time I tried a to start the application it had a pop-up warning to run the software ‘on the computer it was installed on’ or reinstall the software. After several attempts nothing worked. You need to contact H&R block and they will direct you to download a patch. Pretty frustrating!

I’m a long time user of this product but I’m disappointed with this version. Immediately on install from CD I got a warning of the Artemis! virus. It completed install even though it complained about missing a temporary file in c:config. msi folder. It seems to work ok but it will not update the Federal forms at all. Right when the update is about to complete (4 seconds remaining) it stops and reverses the installation of the update. No errors, no reasons. I called H&R Block help line and of course with no errors, no help. Unfortunately, the software is no good if the forms can’t be updated. If it matters I’m using 64-bit version of Windows 7. I uninstalled/reinstalled a couple of times and same problem. I even downloaded the update file directly from the H&R Block website, again same problem. My only option is to return it for a refund. I have to give them 1 star.

    01/29/2010 UPDATE
I finally figured a workaround for my problem. I use McAfee VirusScan Enterprise and I set the following options in their On-Access Scan Properties window:
    1) uncheck Enable on-access scanning at system startup (on the General tab window)
    2) I set the Heuristic network check for suspicious files Sensitivity Level to Diable (on the General tab window)
    3) uncheck Enable scanning of scripts (on the ScriptScan tab window)
    4) rebooted my pc
    5) since I got H&R Blook At Home Premium to load in Windows XP, I ran the install program from the CD in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and also selected to Run as Administrator
    6) H&R Block at Home Premium installed without problems and I was able to update the forms
    7) I reset my VirusScan settings back to their defaults and rebooted

Note: You may want to check out the comment on the 1 star rating (dated 01/19/2010). That commenter may have suggested an easier solution. I missed that comment last time I was up here.

I have now updated my 1 start to a 4 star.
