I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Was a little concerned about the upgrade from previous reviews I had read, but the installation was flawless! For me, I would have preferred to only upgrade the OS without having to purchase the other programs that came in the Box Set as I don't use them, but it was the only way.

Although Apple makes it easy to upgrade your operating system, they certainly don't make it cheap. They bundle Snow Leopard into this box set with iLife and iWork for those users who are upgrading from Tiger and not Leopard. I did some research and it is possible to update from Tiger directly to Snow Leopard using the $30 Snow Leopard upgrade disk, which can be purchased separately. Since iLife '06 (which I was running on Tiger) is not compatible with the new operating system, I purchased iLife '09 separately from Amazon for $69. I don't use iWork (I use Microsoft Office for Mac), so I didn't feel the need to pay more for the bundle which included useless software simply to satisfy Apple's "licensing agreements. " If they didn't want users to upgrade directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard, they shouldn't have made it so easy! Save yourself $70 and just buy the Snow Leopard upgrade disk and iLife '09 (if you use iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, etc). I did a clean install and my computer has never worked better!

I wanted to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but had to also buy all the other stuff I didn't need/want, making it much pricier than necessary. I guess that's the idea though.

The lows were entirely in the shipping, where the box got sent to L. A. back to it's origin, back to L. A. , off to Kentucky, etc and eventually to me.

Was it worth the shipping fiasco? I'd rather that shipping it was as good as the product. I really love Snow Leopard and iWork.
