As a past user of Norton Internet Security (experience with NIS 2002), I feel an obligation to warn people off of this product.
(1) In 2004, a Live Update apparently created a situation in which my computer’s performance slowed to a crawl, with NIS using about 99 percent of the CPU as shown by Task Manager.
(2) More than a dozen E-mails to Symantec’s customer service and technical support representatives went unanswered, as did at least one fax addressed to the department’s manager. This demonstrates the company’s attitude toward quality and customer service.
(3) After early 2006, I could no longer buy virus definition updates. Symantec told me I’d have to buy the newest edition of their software, despite online reviews about it ruining entire computers (people had to reformat their hard drives). I recall that one of their technical support people said it was a good idea to reformat one’s hard drive every so often. Instead, I bought Frisk F-prot (same annual price for virus definitions) and it has worked fine for 1. 5 years.
(4) I can’t uninstall Norton Antivirus via Windows Control Panel. If I disable the registry keys, it jams Word for Windows and every other Windows program that calls for a virus scan. In other words, even though I no longer use it, it still takes up space on my computer and I can’t get rid of it.
I was an advocate of Symantec products five years ago. My more recent experience is that its software is of poor quality, and it has nothing but contempt for its customers.

HELP, PLEASE!!! AMAZON PRODUCT REVIEWS ARE VERY HELPFUL TO ME, ESPECIALLY WITH PROBLEMATIC PRODUCTS THAT COULD ADVERSELY AFFECT ME OR MY PCs. ****SEE QUESTIONS AT BOTTOM. **** I have given NIS a middle or neutral rating because NIS 2007 was so bad, but NIS 2008 appears to be much better. I just do not know enough about NIS 2008.
I purchased Norton Internet Sececurity 2007 shortly after it was released in August or September 2006. I installed it on 3 of our computers with Windows XP (Professional and Home) operating systems. Although I had had great experience for more than 10 years with Norton products, NIS 2007 was so bad that I vowed never to use or buy any Symantic product. NIS 2007’s initial loading required that I delete my spyware software protection programs in order to install NIS 2007 (to sell Norton???), it slowed all 3 PCs to a snail’s pace, it had unneccessary functions, I could not delete or turn-off those functions without a waring, ad nauseum.
HOWEVER, I downloaded Trialware of NIS 2008 on a laptop with VISTA. NIS 2008 was less disruptive to install and it works so well that I am considering istalling it on our other PCs, but I would like some more input from users of NIS 2008.
1. WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH NIS 2008 ON PCs WITH WINDOWS XP?
2. ON XP, DOES NIS 2008 WORK BETTER THAN NIS 2007?
3. WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH NIS 2008 ON PCs WITH WINDOWS VISTA?
4. ON VISTA, DOES NIS 2008 WORK BETTER THAN NIS 2007?

I’ve always used Norton and I’m sure this will be as good as usual. This one is very easy to download.

Choosing a product for the security of your computer is very important, stopping virus and identity theft. Sony preinstalls norton in their laptops, and i tried installing McAfee. McAfee slowed my laptop down to a crawl, and start up time was considerly longer. Even after add/remove process, fragments of McAfee was still left on computer, to get it all out, I had to take computer back to original specs installation from sony. This anti-virus from McAfee internet security 2008 is a very poor chose for sony product, it,s best to stay with norton. I found that installing the upadted version is best done when trail version has expired by no more than 2 days, this does not greatly affect security due to the fact that Vista, has microsoft firewall and spyware biult into system, so the situation of installing new on top of old has been taken care of, because this action greatly affects cpu speed. So over all i am greatly pleased with the new addition of Norton 2008 Security over previous version. Best way to see whats compatiable with the system is to see what security was installed in the system when first purchased and stick with that system. Happy shopping.

Norton software has no “uninstall” attached, you need to go google search for finding its removal software, there have a ton of softwares out there with rebate free except paying the tax and stamp. I tried one and swear never touch any Norton product.
