For a number of years this company has refused to allow Mac users to install their products under a Guest OS. They claim its due to their activation process. If they really wanted more sales they would have allowed Mac folks to install. I heard M$ gave them a lot of many years ago; so I guess they are legally bound not to allow support for Guest OS. But honestly, if they cared they would have fixed activation for version 17 by now. They own the OCR market and so they can do whatever they please. Doj and FTC commission will eventually nail them. Don’t buy their product.

Normally I am not that impressed with software, new to the marketplace, but I am thoroughly impressed with OmniPage 17. It is a good fit for the way I need to use it and all the features of the software work flawlessly. OmniPage OCR function has progress over the years and now in OmniPage 17 it is without doubt the most accurate OCR that I have tried to date.
The direct OCR buttons in MS Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. ) work perfectly for me and I use them daily. This one feature alone is a real time saver for me. I work a lot in SharePoint and being able to move effortlessly from OmniPage 17 to SharePoint is great.
I have a Kindle and OmniPage 17 allows me to turn scanned documents into formatted pages for my Amazon Kindle and sends them to the Kindle. You don’t have to purchase anything else to make this happen like a special scanner. OmniPage 17 works with all three of my scanners. I have a Canon flatbed, a Canon automatic paper feed scanner, and a HP Photosmart all-in-one printer/scanner with no problems using either piece of equipment with OmniPage 17.
I have found OmniPage 17 to be superior in every way I have used it. I recommend OmniPage 17 to everyone and suggest that it is a must have program for anyone in need of OCR to turn articles from periodicals or other paper or photos in usable media.

Better than I anticipated. A significant improvement over OmniPage 10 which I have used for about 8 years.

I have used at least 5 other OCR programs in the past. The programs ranged from downright crude to fairly sophisticated. The best was OmniPage 12, it delivered nearly flawless formatting. At least that is what I thought before I used Omnipage 17. They really have done their homework when they built this product. Thanks!

As with so many others, you will quickly become very, very frustrated with any Nuance product, whether it’s OmniPage, Dragon Naturally Speaking or their other products. Their technical and customer support is very poor, and you will be charged for everything. Most importantly, you should know they’ve set up an impossible “activation” system that is basically another income generator for them and a rip-off for the consumer. Every time you wish to install the software–as when your hard drive crashes or you buy a new computer–you must pay them $10 to get a new activation number. Behind glitzy marketing you will find a company that has few scruples and little interest in their customers (at least after you purchase their products). Their upgrades are ridiculous–you will be charged at least $100 for what are in essence minor updates to their software.
I also agree with the other reviewers that the positive reviews found here sound very suspiciously like Nuance “plants”, which would not surprise me in the least about this unscrupulous company.
