    When you close this application, you can’t reopen it until you use the Processes tab on Task Manager and end processes named “PDR8. exe” and “PDHanumanSvr. exe. ” That makes me suspicious, or at least not impressed by the programming skills of this software’s developers and/or testers. There is nothing unusual about my Windows XP box.

    I want to synchronize a video precisely with some music. PD8 defeated my best efforts to do this.
    It’s done now because another video editor costing about $20 more made it easy. One of the reasons for my difficulty with PD8: When you import a video, sometimes the software displays the audio track and sometimes it doesn’t. I couldn’t find a pattern to this behavior.

    I needed to have some control over the timeline display. PD8 does not let me decide where to display my audio track.

    I can’t count the number of programming languages and software packages I have mastered over the years, and this one beat me. When that happens, it has almost always turned out to be software bugs that cause it. Technical support people are rarely any help with problems like this.

    I downloaded and tried another video editor from one of the biggest and best known software names in the business, and I was on my way, accomplishing my tasks in a short time with little effort. I am uninstalling PD8, absorbing the cost, and buying a second editor, and I’m happy to be out of this misery for relatively little money.

    I spent more time in one afternoon recovering from this stuff crashing than Windows Movie Maker or iMovie could offer in a lifetime. I write this purchase off to experience. Even it if had run as promised without TOTALLY crashing every . . . oh . . . 15 minutes . . . everything about its effects is goofy . . . You can get better editing, better effects, and have more control over titles and transitions with plain old vanilla Windows Movie Maker or even iMovie 8. Consider this: the so-called “tutorials” on the manufacturer’s website are “virtually” unintelligible (not a native English speaker speaking muffled, poor production quality, bad English) and the demonstration clips are amateurish . . . go see for yourself . . . and then be warned . . . I shoulda known!

    I bought this product for the “magic movie” feature. . . and it is magic. This was the first home movie I made; Power Director was extremely intuitive and the ‘magic movie’ feature created a professional-looking movie with transitions, special effects, music, etc. . . then all I had to do was make a few changes. It looks like I paid a professional or spent 40 hours on it.

    Simply import the pictures and video clips; ‘change alias’ to rename/ organize them in the order you want; drag and drop them in alias order; hit the ‘magic movie’ button; then trim the clips to get just the moments you want (Magic movie can’t figure out what the cutest 20 seconds is in a 2-minute clip, for example); delete the canned music off the timeline and add your own. The online help isn’t so great, just read the magic movie tutorial. AMAZING!!!!!

    I’ve been using this brand powerdirector for years and it is very easy to use. very flexible. very customizable. i love it.

    to get the most out of it you will need:
    1. at least 2. 0+ GHz of memory.
    2. about 10G free space to produce
    3. create all videos in segments. ie. production time depends on the length of the video and number of pip layers you use. more pip layers, make the segment shorter.
    4. Keep saving as the system overloads at random points.

    what i regret about this is that the delux CANNOT produce AVCHD output. Only burn onto reg HQ DVD 720-480. You will need ULTRA to do that. I upgrade to ULTRA eventually.

    Plus, you can’t burn AVCHD 1080p into a reg dvd into a reg DVD-+R. you need other resources to do that.

    other than that, I love this and have made MANY videos with this, w/ professional like effects. Very Fun. i love the particles effects. adds lots of pictorial spices.

    Like any program this took me a couple of days to learn it. It is super easy when you “get” it, but the “tutorials” online are a joke. Just a little effort by Cyberlink to get you started would have really helped. I think the interface is beautiful, it is easy to use, and the results are great. It does stop working occasionally but it automatically saves every 10 minutes, so I have not lost work when it ‘crashes’. I have it on my laptop with W. 7 and my desktop with Vista. I got it to be able to edit AVCHD videos from my Panasonic cameras. It works flawlessly on both computers. I am very happy with this program. In fact, happy enough to give it 5 stars despite its lack of a good starter manual. For AVCHD you don’t have very many choices. Get this. You’ll love it.

    {I tried Sony Vegas. This is easier and much more fun. }
