Had any old Quicken from an older computer. I purchased this to go with my new computer, works great, does everything I need in a check book.

I’ve worked with computers for years. . . did not find this particularly user-friendly at all. . personally feel that tutorials would be more useful than the manual or an online community.

This program should be titled Quicken for Dummies. It only does the basic stuff and if you download it you’re stuck with it. You need to upgrade to the $84 program if you have investments you’d like to include. Buyer beware! And if you do still want it buy the package and don’t download. Downloads can’t be returned!

This does not download loan information from banks. . . only checking, savings, and credit card accounts. If you have a loan, even a car loan, you have to enter all the information MANUALLY. You would have to do this every single month.

I’m very disappointed. I wasted my money. This is nothing more than a fancy check register.

I have been using Microsoft Money 2004 since. . . well 2004 and I have been very happy with it. I have always stored Microsoft Money 2004 files on a network drive so my wife and I could use our own computers and update our joint accounts. It worked perfectly for years until I installed Windows 7 on both my and my wife’s PCs. Suddenly I was getting some major errors every time I opened up Microsoft Money, so I needed to replace it, but since Microsoft no longer sells Money I started looking at Quicken.

Even though Intuit says not to store the files on a network drive, I need the flexibility and with the multiple computer networks in many homes today, Intuit should write their software to support it. It has worked very well so far and I back up constantly, so hopefully file corruption won’t be an issue.

I do like Quicken, but I think for 2010 it is a little behind the times. The register looks like an Excel table and you enter deposits and withdrawals in the table. I liked how Money had you entering transactions like a check. A couple things I dislike about the register: 1. You can’t just highlight a transaction, your cursor is always ready to edit something. Sometimes you just want to sit back and look at the data and not have what is highlighted ready to edit. 2. Whatever row is highlighted has a tab that hangs below or above the highlighted row and blocks the view of part of that row. Just annoying.

Getting to a specific account is a breeze, and the menus are set up pretty well so you can find what you need. It takes a little getting used to so you can “Reconcile” your account (as Quicken puts it) rather than “Balance”. The Reconcile feature is very nice and easy to use. I like to manually reconcile my checking account and it makes it easy to do.

Since it has the account tracking I need in an easy to use format and the ability to access Quicken files on a network drive, I will stick with it. It is a good replacement for Microsoft Money to track your accounts and spending.
