Be aware that this product is for one PC not one user with multiple PCs. Purchased it for a new Windows 7 laptop. Ghost 14 will not work with Windows 7. I have Ghost 14 on a XP and Vista PCs works well. Ghost 15 does not seem to be much different. Recommend you upgrade to Ghost 15 if you have a Windows 7 PC otherwise stay with Ghost 14.

This is more a Microsoft windows issue that anything. I've got XP, VISTA (crap), and Windows7. I'm not able to back to another machine on the network. The back up to DVD appears to have worked (would not know unless I tried to restore from it). Takes too much time and too many DVDs to be practical. Hang on do all your install disks, back up mission critcal folders by copying somewhere and that's about the best you can do. Buying this product was wasted money.

This isn't a review, but commentary. I don't understand how Amazon. com can have this available when it's not even available on the Symantec website. There was speculation that it was to be released November 16, 2009, but that is today and still no mention other than here. Why the 1 to 2 months shipping? Also, version 15 is supposed to support Windows 7, but the information above only shows Vista and WinXP.

I love version 14 and have come to rely on it, but it isn't support in Win7.

We purchased a second copy of this product from Amazon in January, and decideed to return it, unopened, as we decided to use the Windows 7 backup instead for our second machine after mixed experience with the first order copy. I returned it to Amazon in the original carton and was charge $5 for return shipping using their prepaid label. Then, I was sent a notice that they were deducting 50% of the purchase price (YES - HALF the whole amount!) because it was not in perfect condition - the box WAS "scrunched" a bit - because that's how I received it. Remember, all you get is an "empty" box, a card with the license, plus a paper-sleeved disk. Now remember - the Box was still sealed!!!. When I protesed this unfair treatment, Amazon did agree to refund that other half of the purchase price "as a customer courtesy" - not because the 50% penalty policy is unreasonable, but because "they like me". SO BEWARE: THIS IS ESSENTIALLY A NON-RETURNABLE PRODUCT. Note: vendors listed here often charge more than Symantec itself for this product if you need an upgrade (Symanted has it at $50). It's an amazingly bad deal at $50- $65, though Amazon has had it listed for as little as $30, at times, which is more reasonable

Note that this backup software is only guaranteed to work for the current Windows version/service pack. Once a new Windows version is released you will probably need to buy a new backup software. For example I bought the previous backup version from Norton just a few months ago for $50, when I had Vista, and now they want to me to pay another $50 so I could upgrade to a version which is compatible with Windows 7.

Note also that all Windows 7 editions already come with a built-in backup and restore solution, and the more advanced editions also support backup over the network. So make sure before you buy that this product actually gives you something you don't already have.
